About

Gresford Sailing Club was started 1959 by Mr Arthur Jones who owned the farm that the Flash was part of,he  lived next to the Flash lake which is where we are still sailing today, the farm is now run by Arthur’s family who let us carry on the sailing at the Flash.Arthur  formed Gresford Sailing Club as a community based club with the aim of family sailing and low membership costs and this still remains true today.

We hold races on a Wednesday evening and a Sunday afternoon

Wednesday evening is a 7.00 start this is a personal pursuit race,so the better you are at sailing the later you start and have to catch up and pass the lead boat, the race lasts for 50 minutes, first over the finish line is the winner

Sunday afternoon starts racing at 2.00 and has a variety of races which change throughout the year but are run as a series of about 12 races per series .

This year we have opened up the club to nearly all classes of boat to allow people who either already have or wish to sail a boat which has not historically been allowed to sail at the Flash (these were the Enterprise,GP,Mirror,Solo,Optimist and RSV Feva). So if you have a boat which would fit in with the club then why not bring it down for a sail.

GSC has produced many excellant sailors over the years

In 1977 Graham and Martin Ellis became Mirror class UK National and European champions.

In 1994 Ben Dutton and Alex Brereton repeated this same achievment.

We have since competed in many races with high placing and now some of our junior sailors are competing at National level in the RS Feva’s.

Model Boats

We have a very active model boat section which meets on a Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, there are a wide range of boats sailed here so why not come down and sail you won’t even have to get your feet wet!.Please see the ModelBoat section for more details.
