Well done katie

Posted on

Well we have nearly reached the end of the year, we have just had our annual dinner and awards evening. Well done to everyone who won a prize  but especially to Katie our youngest winner of the year, she has sailed at every opportunity at the club this year and it shows in her huge improvement, not only was she the top Rookie but she has even been giving the more experienced sailors a run for their money even beating some of them.

Amongst her trophies (4 in total)was the Endeavour trophy which reflects her committment.

Only 1 Trophy left to win this year The Frostbite, it is still anyone’s to win so come and join in.

Can Katie make it 5 trophies.

Find out at the last race along with carols and mince pies on December 10th

Topper Star

Posted on Updated on

Gresford Sailing Club has produced many top sailors over the years our latest is Elin who has progressed through the juniors sailed with the seniors and is now off to the Topper world championships in China 2018.

Please see a copy of the email I received from Elins dad.

Our best wishes and congratulations go to Elin let’s hope you have a great time and do well.

Your long investment in developing GSC juniors is paying off for Elin.

Over the last 3 weeks Elin has been selected for:-

  • Welsh National Topper Squad (5th Girl and 13th overall at Welsh Zone Championships)
  • RYA Great Britain (GBR) Intermediate Topper Squad (24th Girl and 84th Overall, with a 12th place finish in one race, at  Poole Selector National Series 1 Regatta)
  • An ITCA travel grant to take part it the Topper World Championships in Shenzen China next August. This is one of only 100 ITCA grants issued for this event.

This would not have been possible without the foundations laid in GSC Junior Sailing and wider encouragement Elin has had from across GSC. Thank you all.

Part of the squad training will be developing Elin’s coaching skills. This she will be looking to feed back into GSC Junior Sailing over the coming years.

Here is something from our model boats section always well attended taken from Barries newsletter

A good day if a little chilly, a definite feel of Autumn in the air.
Two of the comps got under way and i have a sneaky feeling
the members enjoyed the experience. First off was the round
the lake challenge, this started at marker number two then on
around the lake in your choice of rotation back to marker two .
then around the marker for a circuit in the opposite direction
and back to the the number two marker for the final circuit in
the original direction then back to marker two.
Bob was home first to claim the bottle of wine.

The Open Yacht Race

The opportunity to run the open yacht race was taken back in August with eight yachts entered the race was for three full laps around the agreed course.

One interesting point to come out of the yacht racing, the
Dragon Flight 95 appears to be the dominant speed yacht
on the lake on the lake challenged on the day by Bobs home
built. Not sure if bob designed the yacht or if he built it from
a plan. No Marbleheads or IOM were running in the events
to make a challenge, although Bill did get get in the fray with
his Laser but didn’t match the Dragons for speed.
